When I write or produce a story, I think in terms of packages: how will the pictures/sound/design help tell my story. (Plus, it doesn't hurt that the stories with the best art usually get the best play...)
As the outlets I worked for kept tightening and tightening their budgets, I learned that the reporter who can gather her own art is more valuable than the one who can only paint in words.
I'm training myself to be an all-around reporter. Photography may never be what I do best, but I am committed to broadening my abilities so I can stay useful and effective.
